Salmon Sighting!

On Labor Day, we took a drive over to the Key Peninsula to explore the area. We had heard that August/September is a good time to go over to the salmon hatchery if you want to spot Bald Eagles. No eagles were out, but we did see two large Sea Hawks (Osprey). They were watching the nearby stream for the salmon that were swimming by.

We walked down to the stream (the whole time I was on the lookout for bears), and when we reached it, we were surprised at how many salmon there were. Some really big ones, too! We had never seen salmon swimming, and I really didn't think there would be a stream. I just figured that the salmon were grown and raised at the hatchery, but they swim upstream to it. Makes sense! There were a lot of other people out that day, also looking at the salmon.

Tyler's First Day of School

Tyler was very excited to start second grade! Since they loop at his school, he has the same teacher and class again this year. This made for an easy first day of school since everything was already familiar to him and there were no unexpected surprises.

Connor will be starting his second year of preschool on September 16. He goes to the same school as Tyler, so was wondereing why he wasn't going back at the same time. I really don't understand the two week difference, and really, it is more confusing for the little ones.

It was really cute the night before school started. I was trying to get the boys to bed by 9:00. Tyler was trying to fall asleep, but typical Connor was being loud and talking non stop. Tyler yelled to him, "Connor, go to bed! Don't you know that second grade is important!" I had to laugh at that one! :)
